This collection is a somewhat arbitrary notion of what the third Tycho album might have been. These recordings are the most realised versions of the works-in-progress from Diarmuid’s archive, all at different stages of development (there may yet be better versions still undisclosed in other repositories).

At the time in which these recordings were made, the group had hoped to have been in a much stronger position on the back of the release of, and promotional work done for the second album ‘Love-Life’ throughout 2003 into 2004. Promises made by third-party investors had also failed to materialise and the pressure of maintaining the necessary commitment to the group was starting to show.

With the band’s status and fortune being less than optimal, the general feeling in the camp was not one of confidence, and as the work played out in fits and starts over the months, doubt and resentment were building. Progress on the work, along with personal relations broke down toward the end of 2004 and the band split. Donal and Carol did make an appearance on a compilation some time after, performing ‘Fire-God and the Dinosaurs’, but otherwise this material has been heard by very few people.

Although it is difficult for the band-members to hear this work objectively, that is to say, outside of the context in which it was made, the listener might agree that a substantial album was gestating. Had there been a release schedule with a looming deadline, who knows what proverbial rabbits might have been pulled out of the proverbial hat? It is a real pleasure to be able to finally present this document of the album-in-progress, now known as ‘III’, in the great Rock tradition, and we invite you, gentle listener, to experience and perhaps even enjoy the frayed end of the story of The Tycho Brahe..

The Tycho Brahe formed in 2001 having already had history in various combinations as Low Babies and The Plague Monkeys. After the 2001 debut 'This is..' and the double album follow-up 'Love Life' in 2003, the band called it a day in 2004.
